Overview:

The female labour force participation rate in India fell from 36 percent in 2005-06 to 24 percent in 2015-16. Why is the female labour force participation rate so low even when women are becoming more educated?

Quest Alliance, is a social enterprise working to enable educators address gaps for quality education and skills training through technology. The research was to evaluate their programs and identify why women were not seen in the formal workforce after ITI training.

Process:

We travelled to Delhi and got involved in deep ethnographic research. Several interviews with ITI students, staff, parents and ITI alumni were conducted within Delhi & NCR. The interviews were coded and analysed to give insights into the formal workforce discussion.

Outcome:

A conceptual framework on home entrepreneurship training, that Quest Alliance could incorporate within their syllabus. The research pointed out that most young girls wanted to become entrepreneurs instead of joining an “office”.
